At the beginning of June, Tallinn comes alive with a particularly festive atmosphere—the annual Old Town Days (Vanalinna päevad) take place in the Old Town. The narrow streets fill with music, theater, craft fairs, tours, and workshops. These are days when you can experience the spirit of the city, touch its history, and become part of a living tradition.
This year, NUUNUU RUUM participated in the festival and held a creative workshop, "Ceramic Postcard of Tallinn." Participation was free—we opened our studio to anyone who wanted to preserve their memories of the city in a unique format.
Before the workshop, participants strolled through the Old Town, observing architectural details: windows, arches, signs, towers, wrought iron elements, and patterns on the facades of buildings. All of this became a source of inspiration.
Then, in the studio, each participant painted a ceramic tile (10x10 cm), turning it into a unique postcard. Some depicted specific buildings, others created imaginative compositions based on the city's theme, adding inscriptions or decorative elements. The work was done with underglaze paints on wet clay—a technique that allows the design to be preserved after firing and glazing.
After completion, all pieces were fired in a ceramic kiln. These postcards will be available for pickup from the studio—a beautiful reminder of summer, Tallinn, and the days when the city shared its inspiration with us.
