GLOSS.eeDrinking coffee from a handmade ceramic mug is a special kind of pleasure, and many Tallinn residents have already mastered this skill at the unique
NUUNUU RUUM pottery studio (Müürivähe 28), which celebrated its third anniversary on September 9th.
There’s nothing quite like this in any other ceramics studio in Tallinn. You walk into the boutique, are treated to a warming drink served in charming handcrafted pottery, and immediately feel at home—a place you don’t want to leave. Everything here encourages you to linger: cozy lighting, warm tones in the interior, and a variety of handmade ceramic pieces, whether mugs, plates, vases, or unique home décor items.
Many of the ceramics were created by the studio’s owner,
Tatiana Vorozhun, while others are works by different designers. The entire space is imbued with a creative spirit. Tatiana moved to Tallinn from Belarus five years ago. She attended art school and practiced painting, but visual arts didn’t captivate her as much as ceramics. “My teacher used to say it’s just my thing. It suits my character so well—calmly sculpting something, creating with my hands, immersing myself in the process, and forgetting about everything else.”
People come to the studio in small groups for workshops. While everyone is focused on one activity, they aren’t in a rush, enjoying tea or coffee and chatting. According to Tatiana, the studio is also a popular venue for bachelorette parties and birthday celebrations.
NUUNUU RUUM is a rather small studio, which means workshops are not suitable for large groups. But that’s a good thing—creative processes thrive in quiet and relaxed environments where you can share your thoughts, ask all your questions, and receive maximum attention from the instructor. These workshops are suitable for both adults and children—we even spotted a few delightful children's creations in the studio.
There are no strict programs to follow. Participants can express their own ideas, or Tatiana can suggest what they might like to sculpt. According to her, the simplest options are plates and mugs. Some decorative items are also perfect for beginners. If you’re already familiar with ceramics and have tried your hand at it, you’re welcome to attend solo and experiment with more complex projects.
The studio currently offers 8 workshops for both adults and children. There are options for beginners and more advanced participants.
